What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi is a centuries old art, (T’ai Chi Ch’uan) developed in China, that combines health exercises with self defense moves. Tai Chi emphasizes relaxation, proper alignment of the joints, whole body fluidity, and the refined use of internal energy.
Tai Chi (pronounced ‘tie chee’) is practiced in a slow, flowing, relaxed and connected sequence of movements called a form.
Millions of people around the world practice Tai Chi every day for its healing effects on mind, body, and spirit.
Modern scientific research is confirming that the long-renowned health benefits of Tai Chi are significant and verifiable.
The benefits of Tai Chi practice are available to young and old, fit and unfit, injured and active...no matter what your current level of health/fitness/awareness, Tai Chi practice can provide significant improvements in the functioning of your mind/body.
Although relatively few people practice it as such, Tai Chi is also a Martial Art. An “internal” art T’ai Chi Ch’uan does not rely on brute strength or aggressiveness. The underlying principles and the philosophy of Tai Chi are based on re-directing your opponent’s force while maintaining your own physical and mental integrity. |
